The Passing of Wesley’s Charm

I received three email messages about Wesley’s Charm. One was from Joan Brenton, who contributed an essay for Let’s Talk Grief 2. The second was from Trevor Pelley, who found Wesley’s Charm two hours after Joan left it at a park, and Ethan Cowley, who found one of Wesley’s Charms I left in Portland, Oregon.
On Sunday, August 23rd at 2:20 pm, Joan Brenton left one of Wesley’s Charms in Newfoundland, Canada while she was on vacation. I gave Joan Wesley’s Charm two weeks earlier when I met her in Toronto to discuss submitting an essay for Let’s Talk Grief 2.

Here is Joan’s message and photos she emailed me.
Hi Hogan,
Sending a few pictures of where I left Wesley’s charm. We thought long and hard about where to leave his charm, but we found the best spot! The Lewisporte Train Park and Hiking Trail. It’s the last known train that traveled across the island before the railways closed. I hope Wesley enjoys his train ride in Newfoundland, and that someone else finds it and takes it with them. My birthday was Sunday, and it was an amazing day with Mom, sisters, and Wesley’s charm.

Two hours later, at 4:20 pm, I received an email from Trevor and a photo of him picking up Wesley’s Charm, which Joan had left. It’s the fastest exchange, two hours, of Wesley’s Charm from one person to another.
Trevor wrote that he took Wesley’s Charm with him and would leave it elsewhere.

I forwarded Trevor’s message and photo to Joan. She was thrilled to hear the news that someone had already found Wesley’s Charm she left at the train park and taken it with him.
Ethan wrote that he took Wesley’s Charm with him and sent a photo of Wesley’s Charm near the Willamette River in Portland, Oregon, where I had left it last month.
